EMDR & SCHEMA THERAPY
EMDR and schema therapy are powerful approaches for working with trauma, emotional triggers, and the patterns that keep repeating both in your relationships and within yourself.
Rather than just talking about what’s happening, this work focuses on how past experiences are held in the nervous system and expressed through core beliefs, reactions, and behaviours.
Through a combination of EMDR, schema therapy, and somatic approaches, these patterns can be processed and shifted at their root, creating real, lasting change.
WHAT IS EMDR?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a structured, evidence-based therapy that helps the brain process experiences that have become stuck.
When something overwhelming happens, especially in childhood or during periods of stress, it may not be fully processed at the time. Instead, it can remain stored in the nervous system, continuing to influence how you feel, react, and respond in the present.
This can show up as strong emotional reactions that feel out of proportion, feeling triggered in certain situations, patterns of anxiety, shutdown, or overwhelm, and repeating dynamics in relationships.
EMDR works by supporting the brain to reprocess these experiences safely, so they no longer carry the same emotional intensity or drive the same patterns.

SCHEMA THERAPY
If you keep ending up in the same painful patterns, it’s not bad luck—it’s a schema.
Schema therapy focuses on the deeper patterns that shape how you think, feel, and relate to yourself and others.
These patterns often develop early in life as a way of adapting to your environment. While they once made sense, they can become repetitive or limiting over time.
They can show up as recurring relationship dynamics, strong emotional reactions that feel hard to shift, self-criticism or a sense of not being enough, and difficulty with trust, boundaries, or closeness.
Even when you understand the pattern, it can still keep playing out.
Schema therapy works by identifying these patterns and how they formed, while supporting you to shift how you respond, not just in insight, but in how you feel, relate, and act.
Over time, this creates more flexibility, stronger boundaries, and a greater sense of stability in yourself and your relationships.
Combined with EMDR, this work goes beyond understanding the pattern and allows it to be processed at a deeper level.
Rather than continuing to react in the same ways, new responses begin to emerge more naturally as the underlying drivers of the pattern shift.
How This Work Helps
This work is not just about understanding your experiences, but changing how they are held in your system.
As past experiences are processed, many people notice that emotional triggers begin to soften, reactions feel less intense, and situations that once felt overwhelming become more manageable.
Patterns that have felt stuck for years can begin to shift, not through effort or willpower, but because the underlying drivers are no longer operating in the same way.
This can lead to feeling more grounded, more connected to yourself, and more able to respond rather than react in your relationships and daily life.
